As Nigerians marked the nations 59th independence recently, Very Rev. Fr. Innocent Obi, Chaplain to the diocesan youth commission has said just as King Herod fought Jesus right from his childhood so too the Herod of poverty is fighting millions of Nigerians.
Addressing members of the Marian Society who converged at the Ascension Catholic Church Ekpan and Ascension parish Abraka to mark the 59th Independent and a day with mother Mary, the priest noted that in life, the purpose of God must be fulfilled no matter the attack.
Taking a cue from the gospel reading of the day which states how Jesus fulfilled the purpose of God in his earthly ministry despite the attack on his life by King Herod, Rev. Fr. Obi maintained that  the Nigeria situation could be compared to that of Jesus millions of Nigerians are driven by Herod of poverty, joblessness,  insecurity and bad governance.
He prayed God to grant the nation a lasting peace and blessed her with good leaders as the country celebrates her 59th independent anniversary.
On his part, Very Rev. Fr. Nicholas Dlebah, Diocesan Chaplain of the Marian Society in his talk stated that Christians life is face with challenges which began on the day of baptism.
He said the evil which affects Christians of today is as a result lack of vision to see evil or differentiate between evil and good.
Rev. Fr. Djebah further admonished Christians to be holy in every area of life and always accommodate only what is right.
The ceremony attracted legionaries from across the diocese, priests and Catechists.
