CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF WARRI, Missionary:- Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos Archdiocese, His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Olubumi Okogie, has decried the timid and ignorance attitude of Catholics in defending the Catholic faith
The ranking Catholic clergy said he is unhappy and worried because many who professed the Catholic faith do nothing or very little practically and publicly to project the faith, adding that as a result of these, most Catholics are easily lured into denying their belief and faith under little provocation.
The prelate who spoke recently when the National Executives of SIGNIS Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Lagos, challenged Catholics, and indeed all Christians to be bold enough to profess and project their faith at all times, no matter the condition they may find themselves.
Making reference to the 16 year old Christian girl, Leah Shuaibu who was denied freedom by her captives for refusing to deny her faith in Jesus, Anthony Cardinal Okogie called on all to emulate such positive virtue, saying any Christian who forsakes Christ as a result of worldly pressure, was not fit to be considered one.
He equally called on priests to be more outspoken against the prevailing ills in the society, noting that the country was in need of more voices of conscience to speak out in condemnation of the various injustices, corruption and immoral vices plaguing the country.
