On monday the 25th of July 2016 Christ’s faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Warri gathered at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Warri to witness the ordination of 10 new seminarians to the order of the diaconate. They are Revs. Adidi Peter, Dedekuma Peter, Eghrudje Charles, Ezeibenne Paul, Igbinovia Benjamin-Maria, Nakpodia Mudiaga, Nwabuifeukwu Anthony, Ogbonna Vitus, Ogun Festus, Orugbo Telesphonerus. It was a celebration of great joy and thanksgiving to God.
In his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Warri, Most Rev. John Afareha exhorts those to be ordained to conscious of the one who has called them and to follow him faithfully. He reminds them of the evangelical counsels of obedience, poverty and chastity virtues that are to guide the rest of thier lives. Henceforth all that they have and all that they are belongs to God and to the church. The Bishop also reminded the laity of their responsibility towards the priest. They are to contribute to the support of their pastors.
The entire celebration was very solemn but also marked with a great sense of joy. The new deacons came out for thanksgiving with their families and friends. The Bishop gave them the Breviary for the fulfilment of the divine office and the celebration of the Liturgy of the hours. “May God who has begun this good work in them, bring it to fulfilment.”
