With the alarming rate of evils in the society, Most Rev. John OkeOghene Afareha of Warri Diocese has urged Catholic priests all over be abreast with happenings and evil vices in the society so as not to be ignorant and taken unaware.
Addressing priests and religious on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 during the annual get together of Priests and Religious working in the Diocese of Warri at the Jubilee Retreat and Conference Centre Effurun, the bishop disclosed that series of evil is going on daily I the society, and as such, everyone should be on guard and be watchful.
He called on them to be watchful and fashioned out ways through which the evil can be arrested.
Bishop Afareha lamented the high rate of ritual killing, noting that If there is no value in place of life, there is no way any achievement can be manage.
The prelate appealed for intense prayers as the nation is in dire need of God intervention. He revealed that was the reason while the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria compose a prayer for Nigeria in Distress in 1997 and have refuse to change the prayer since the regime of Late Gen. Sanni Abacha. He said Nigeria is still very much in distress, hence more prayers is needed to be said for the leaders especially the president.
Most Rev. Afareha appreciated all the priests and religious for their active collaboration with him in moving the Diocese to a greater height.
High point of the celebration was presentation of gifts to priests and religious by the bishop.
