Missionary Newspaper, Warri Diocese: Authorities of the FCT Police Command on Sunday night confirmed the killing of a Catholic Priest on Sunday in Gwagwalada area of Abuja.
DSP Ajuguri Manzah, spokesman of the FCP Police Command who confirmed the news of the killing, said the police has commenced investigation into the incident.
He said the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Ciroma has ordered detectives to move to Gwagwalada and unearth the immediate and remote cause of the gruesome murder of the Catholic priest.
Recall that a young Catholic Priest in Abuja Archdiocese, Rev. Fr Michael Akawu, was Saturday evening shot dead by yet to be identified gun men in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The Catholic Priest, who until his gruesome killing worked as Assistant Parish Priest at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish Dobi, was allegedly gunned down at a Supermarket in Gwagwalada where he was said to have gone shopping.
The alleged assailants, according to unconfirmed sources were still at large.
The Abuja Catholic Archdiocese was yet to make a formal statement Sunday as the time of filing this report.
Akawu was ordained priest on February 4, 2017 by the Archbishop of Abuja, the Most Revd. John Cardinal Onayeikan.
La police confirme l’assassinat d’un prêtre catholique à Gwagwalada
Les autorités du commandement de la police de la FCT ont confirmé dimanche soir l’assassinat d’un prêtre catholique dimanche dans le quartier de Gwagwalada à Abuja.
Le DSP Ajuguri Manzah, porte-parole du commandement de la police du FCP, qui a confirmé la nouvelle de l’assassinat, a indiqué que la police avait ouvert une enquête sur cet incident.
Il a déclaré que le commissaire de police de la FCT, CP Ciroma, avait ordonné aux détectives de déménager à Gwagwalada pour dénicher les causes immédiates et à distance de l’incident.
Rappelons qu’un jeune prêtre catholique de l’archidiocèse d’Abuja, le révérend père Michael Akawu, a été abattu samedi soir par des hommes armés encore inconnus à Gwagwalada, à Abuja.
Le prêtre catholique, qui jusqu’à son horrible assassinat travaillait comme curé de la paroisse Dobi de Notre-Dame-de-l’Immaculée Conception, aurait été abattu dans un supermarché à Gwagwalada, où il aurait fait ses courses.
Selon des sources non confirmées, les assaillants présumés étaient toujours en fuite.
L’archidiocèse d’Abuja catholique devait encore faire une déclaration officielle dimanche à propos de l’incident.
Akawu a été ordonné prêtre le 4 février 2017 par l’archevêque d’Abuja, le Très Rév. John Cardinal Onayeikan
