Pope Francis Appoints Bishop Matthew Audu Archbishop Of Jos

The Holy Father, Pope Francis today, January 6, 2020, appointed the bishop of Lafia Diocese, Most. Rev. Matthew Ishaya Audu as the new Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos.

His appointment followed the secondment of Most Rev. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama to Abuja Archdiocese following the retirement of John Cardinal Onayeikan who clocked the canonical retirement age recently.

Born on June 7, 1959 at Rafin Pa, Most Rev. Matthew Ishaya Audu studied at the University of Ibadan and the Urbanian University Rome. He was ordained priest in June 23, 1984.

He had his Post Graduate Studies Licentiate in Moral Theology in Rome in 1991 and a doctorate degree in Moral Theology also in Rome in 1999.

The Most Rev. Matthew Audu held several post after his ordination. Assistant Parish Priest, (1984-1988), Lecturer/Vice Rector, St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, Makurdi (1992),
Lecturer/Vice Rector, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Major Seminary, Makurdi, 1997-2000.

He was I stalled bishop of Lafia diocese in 2001 and appointed Archbishop of Jos Archdiocese on January 6, 2020.
