8th August, 2015: Memorial of St. Dominic

Deuteronomy 6:4-13.
Psalm 18:2-4, 47 & 51. I love you, Lord, my strength.
Matthew 17:14-20.

Jesus tells his disciples “… if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there’, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” Wow. These are words of empowerment. Such words will certainly make people believe in themselves. Faith in God empowers the individual to perform mighty works that are consoling and liberating. We can move mountains and cast out demons. We can move the mountains of sorrow, depression, hurt and the likes, replacing them with joy, happiness, and peace. We can cast out demons of anger, wickedness, hatred and the likes, replacing them with love and unity. Sometimes, the effective way to preach the Gospel is not only by our words, but the additional effort we make to show love to people. Preaching to a person who has no food and no hope of eating a single meal for the time might not be a wrong approach, but a more effective one will be to help him with something to eat. By that, he will understand that God is his provider, and that God provides even when the human being thinks there is no way out. This singular action can move a mountain in this person’s life and cast out the demon called ‘lack of hope’. We are called to do good always.

May the Lord bless His word in our hearts.
