10th August, 2015: St. Lawrence (Feast).
2 Corinthians 9:6b-10.
Psalm 112:1b-2, 5-9. It goes well for the man who deals generously and lends.
John 12:24-26.
Today, we celebrate St. Lawrence, the wonderful deacon whose love for the poor was modelled after the love of Christ for humanity. We celebrate a man who stopped at nothing to make sure that the poor received some comfort and experienced love. He sacrificed his time and the resources at his disposal for the good of the people around him. He found joy in giving. Our two readings today talk about what we receive as reward when we make the initial sacrifice of investing our time and resources. This in other words, is the harvest that comes after a successful investment. Our time for the Lord is an investment and the reward for it will be in great measure. Christ Himself tells us today in the Gospel that His Father will reward all those who serve Him. Let us take after St. Lawrence and invest our time and resources in serving God through the people around us. We surely, will receive the reward for such service.
May the Lord bless His word in our hearts.
